What is food? Can you even recognize it anymore?
In this world of mass production and marketing to the masses, can you tell me what is actually in your food? If not… it’s not a vital part of what your body needs to survive. If there are ingredients on the label that you can not make out, find something fresh or in the raw that you crave instead. America allows some additives into our food supply that other countries ban all together: Olestra or Olean, Brominated vegetable Oil (BVO), Potassium Bromate, BHA/BHT, Azodicarbonamide, Artificial food coloring and synthetic food dyes, rBGH or rBST hormones, Neonicotinoid pesticides, Arsenic, and Formaldehyde are just a few.
So what should you eat? What does well balanced mean?
Let’s start with this:
Eat meat and vegetables, nuts and seeds, some fruit, little starch and no sugar.
Shop around the outside of the grocery store for the freshest ingredients.
No sugar? The average American has their daily quota of sugar before they leave the breakfast table. When looking back at the trends of obesity in the United States, it actually came with the most drastic uprise during the fortification of products with extra sugar. Companies did this becuase they wanted it to taste better when they removed the fat, originally thinking that fat was the culprit or the increased obesity levels.
Just remember that life is a balance, proper fueling rather than eating for pleasure is how we need to think about what we put in our mouths. This directly affects the outcome of what our bodies can do.
Cook for two weeks utilizing only foods that either don’t have a label or you know every ingredient that is on the label!
